Episode 75

Holy Sexuality

Welcome to another episode of the Struggling Wellcast. if any of you are keeping track, this is the second time in like 52 months that Jimmy has let me introduce the podcast. I'm joking.

52 months.

Is that

That's a long time.

Oh, that is a long time. I meant 52 weeks.

Yeah. Well, that's a little bit.

I don't do math, babe.

I know you don't. You don't do weeks or months.

I don't do I don't do much. I don't cook, that's for sure.

this week we're going to go in a little bit of a different direction. And we have not done this before. I don't think we've ever used our podcast to advertise anything. I mean, we certainly mentioned books and authors just that have impacted us, but we were able to hear someone that recently spoke at a church here in our town that really stirred up a lot of things in both of us. I was not able to be in the actual service. Jimmy was, so he experienced it a little differently than I did. But at the church that we are attending, they brought in a man named Dr. Dr. Christopher Yuan. Now, I had never heard of him before. some of my friends had, but I had never heard of him before. Jimmy, tell the story of how he came.

Well, the pastor and his wife had heard him in, a different setting at a in a platform in DC a number of years ago, and were so moved by his story, they decided to bring him in for a Sunday. The morning service being what they called the inspirational telling of his story. And then the afternoon he went back and he did some more practical ways that people can get involved and a subject again that is one that people are struggling with today. Not just the world is struggling with but we as a believing believers are struggling with which is the whole topic of sexuality.

Yeah. You know we have on purpose stayed away from and we will continue to stay away from political things. we just want you if you didn't vote, I hope that you do vote in the big election in the fall, but we stay away from that stuff. we still want to be able to have meaningful dialogue with people about what they think and what they believe and who they stand behind. So, we don't do that. and this is really our first time, I think, standing out to speak about something that means, so much and so many of our fellow Christ followers are struggling with this, struggling with it with their kids, but the whole idea of sexuality. And if you have ne never heard of Dr. Yuan, I would urge you to go I think his site is just Christopher Yuan. com. And what he does is he speaks about his own story, his struggle with sexuality, but his talk that he gave at the church we attend is holy sexual uality and the gospel. And I think that the difference there is to me as I listened to it, it wasn't so much about his sexuality and what he struggled with because he was very honest about that. But it was listening to his mom who for years interceded for him and asked big things of God and then to hear his story which wasn't about him as much as it was about the miracles that God performed to get to him. Right. Yeah. It was You're right, babe. I mean, the a testimony of a mom who for eight years prayed for her son, prayed for him more than even the issues that he was struggling with sexually was that he would come to know Jesus.

And one of the powerful things that was said that morning was to parents we spend all the time in the world talking to our kids about getting their homework done, doing well in school, getting into the right school, selecting the right career, but do we as Christian parents spend any time talking to them about falling more in love with Jesus? And that was where the that title, holy sexuality and the gospel. It was a gospel issue. It is a gospel issue. And I can't I don't see how we can I know we'd like to put it in the political arena because it's there, but it really is you can't separate the gospel from how I choose to live as a Christ follower.

And I think one of the takeaways that I was able to see is that as believers, you know, we say we follow Christ. And I think we mentioned this a couple of episodes before. We follow him, we read, we go to church, we give, etc. But when our kids start to make choices that we know conflict with God's word, we step away from the difficulty of that. In other words, We put aside what the biblical directives are, how Jesus told us to live, and we take on or we stand with our kids about issues that we know are not in keeping with God's word because we don't want to lose them. We want them to know we love them, that we accept them. And what we do though is we trade the truth for lack of conflict and to make sure that our kids are okay. But are they really okay if we are not speaking the truth from God's word?

Yeah. And so we would just again it's a recommendation from us to you to look further into the work that's being done by Dr. Christopher Yuan and the and all that he's putting out to help parents to help Christian parents guide their kids through the struggle that's there because of what the world presents. And so we would encourage you to look that up, find that and do some more work on your own because it is our responsibility as parents and grandparents by the way to pour into the lives of our kids and our grandkids the life of Christ.

And I would end with this and this is maybe a little shorter podcast than what we normally do, but let's stop being afraid that our kids or our grandkids are not going to like us. or they're going to feel rejected by us and you know that they need like the day when everybody started getting a trophy for just participating. I think things really went downhill. I never got a trophy. It could be I'm a little bitter. But seriously, we're afraid and more parents will say to you, "Well, I love my child and I don't want to lose my child." And I understand that. I don't want to lose my kids or my grandkids either. However, am I willing for them to lose Christ? That's the question we have to ask.

Have a great week.
